Mrs. Carla Marquand
As principal of Mears Middle School since July of 2023, Carla Marquand is passionate about building a welcoming, connected school community where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to grow. She works alongside staff, families, and students to align learning across all subjects, strengthen literacy skills, and create meaningful experiences that help every student thrive.

Mrs. Crysta Svendsen
I am a lifelong Alaskan, born and raised in Anchorage. I have had the pleasure of serving students and families for 23 years in the Anchorage School District. I started out teaching Physical Education at the elementary and middle school level for about 12 years. In 2007, I earned my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and worked with students mostly at separate day schools for about 8 years. I had the opportunity to come back to Mears Middle School in 2020 as one of their counselors and then moved into the Assistant Principal position during the 22-23 school year. I enjoy the outdoors with my family. You can see us often on the bike trails, skiing or snowboarding, and fishing on the Kenai.
