Japanese Immersion Program

The Mears Japanese Immersion program increases the Japanese reading, writing, and speaking skills of students who continue in the immersion program from Sand Lake Elementary. Students in the immersion program will have social studies class and a Japanese language class with either Sensei Chambers (8th grade) or Sensei Yazaki (7th grade).

The Japanese Immersion Program starts at Sand Lake Elementary school with kindergarten students and continues through high school at Dimond High School.

Exchange Program

Anchorage is a sister city to Chitose, Japan and the two school districts have enjoyed many years of exchange trips. Students, staff members, and a city official visited Anchorage and Mears in January of this year. Students from Mears will be visiting Japan in the Spring.
